Jonathan Cronstedt shares his best advice for producing worthwhile content
Sure, content is king in affiliate marketing, as it is in other industries. That’s how we drive traffic to our websites and build relationships.
Not a week goes by that someone doesn’t say, “But Jonathan, it’s really difficult to create great content.” I agree. This most vital of tasks can also be the most challenging, especially if you’re not a writer by nature. With that in mind, here are some of the tools that I find useful when trying to cultivate the best content:
Shake things up
Many people get so accustomed to doing things the same way that they eventually get stuck in a rut and can’t see their way out. When this happens, pledge to do something differently. For example, if you normally stick to product reviews and comparisons, shake things up. Instead, write about what’s going on in your industry or offer profiles on someone influential in your field.
Go back to move forward
The Cronstedt family isn’t known to be ready for retreat, but this is entirely different. Go through some of your old blogs to get ideas for new ones. You may find a different angle you didn’t notice before or perhaps updates are now available for some of the information you provided last year.
Remember your audience
While it’s crucial to stay on the right side of search engine optimization rules, don’t do it at the expense of your readers. Learn what they’re looking for and deliver it in your content. I’ve found that if you focus on being honest, providing value and writing about what you believe in, you’ll usually encourage repeat customers and remain successful.
Use all the tools available to you
You can find several topic generator tools that allow you to type in a few keywords and they’ll offer suggestions for article ideas. In addition, set up Google Alerts to stay aware of new content in your industry. Empower Network also offers assistance, such as web software, marketing and leadership tools for startup, home-based, small and medium businesses.
Pay attention to the competition
The best way to add value is to offer something unique that your visitors can’t find anywhere else. To do this, you have to know what others are offering. Knowing what your audience wants is the key. Then, discover areas that your competitors may be missing and capitalize on them. There are programs that make this easy by allowing you to find out the types of content that gets the most shares over a certain period of time.
Ask the right questions
Sometimes you can find ideas for content by asking your audience what they want to know. Not only will this generate topics, but you’ll also be engaging your readers and ensuring that you’re the one who answers their questions and solves their problems as they move through the sales cycle.
Attend affiliate marketing networking events
At Empower Network, we host several events throughout the year where our members can come together for networking and growth. You can use these opportunities to learn about the latest content strategy techniques and discover ideas through your colleagues that you can use for your own success.
As a final note, be sure to pay attention to the rules
There was a time when any old trite or cheaply obtained information would pass as content. Today, with online regulations and Google penalties for duplicate information and spammy tactics, having quality, original content is more important than ever. In your efforts to develop content, don’t sacrifice excellence.
With help from Empower Network you won’t have to deal with the technical, marketing, payroll and overhead challenges that frustrate many entrepreneurs. This will allow you to focus on your content and let your business thrive.
I’d love to learn your strategies for creating fresh content. Share the details in the comments section.
